• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Bowl in ash or beech

I think I can see the ends of pores on the outside of it. Ash is ring porous, beech isn't, so I'd say it's Ash.

It's also rather lovely!

I agree. I find most low bowls with more-or-less vertical sides end up looking like dog bowls but this is really nice, Andy. And a nice foot.

Thank you. I am pleased with the shape although woe betide the dog if he goes anywhere near it. I started this back in May!
I am not so happy with the position of the monogram on the base.
The ring foot is something I enjoy doing.

As it is ash then it is from a tree that came down in a field next to my SIL’s place a good few years ago. I have a number of sizeable chunks. I started turning this with the intention of giving it to a cousin who we visited back in June. Having not finished it in time I had intended to give it to him when they were due to visit us in September . Sadly they had to cut their holiday short and did not have time to call in. It will probably find it’s way to them for Christmas now. Better late than never.

No particular purpose as regards the shape. in a very pretentious arty way I just let the shape evolve as I was turning it. I just went with the flow.

Now I can be certain it is ash I know the tree came down in July 2017 . I must retrieve another piece and make something for my SIL.

I like the way that your chainsaw is escaping from its box... :)

Is your chainsaw petrol or battery type?
Neither, it is a Husqvarna corded electric. Motor is set behind the bar which makes cutting low to the ground easy, 14” I think and with a rip and crosscut chain does all I need to do.
