Did anyone hear the story on PM yesterday about Only Fans?
Apparently it's a Patreon-style video platform. Recently it decided to ban what one might call "adult-interest" content. And then even more recently, it has decided not to do so after all, presumably because it is a huge proportion of its content and therefore income.

Evan Davis interviewed an American lady who features on the platform and has been affected by this uncertainty. She been strutting her stuff for about a year. Evan asked her how much she earned from her films. About $60K. That's not 60K per annum, you understand, it's 60K PER MONTH. Half a million quid a year.

I realise that sex is more attractive than woodwork to the vast majority of the world's male population (I can't speak for the ladies), but really??? The value that we as a society put on stuff never ceases to amaze, and, sadly, depress me.

It's probably something similar to the video game streaming business, people will pay to subscribe to their favourite streamers and even in some cases donate ludicrous amounts of money to them, hundreds and even sometimes thousands of pounds in donations, just to watch someone play video games :eusa-think:

I am somewhat afraid that its a new world dawning and we will get left behind. Im only 40, I consider myself to be relatively modern* (except video games, which im crap at) and yet I can not fathom the social media industry and how anybody (Steve included) makes money from it. Let alone vast amounts. Its a economic alteration that defies almost all predictions excluding very much "out there" theories from what were considered as slightly wacky.

*i am aware that by saying this I prove that I am somewhat not modern.

Social media has turned everything into instant gratification and lives run by likes and shares, consumerism gone mad. Only fans has been around a while and you see these people drum up business for their channels on social media...i just wonder what their parents think of all this.

It's easy to see how this has come about, look at the rubbish on TV, everything is reality TV shows with nonsense like love island etc. There are very few good shows and even fewer talented actors these days.

"Influencers" are another talentless lot idiots with self importance higher than the Orange one.

I had to walk out halfway through as I found it so utterly depressing. You are correct. It is where we are heading and, sadly, well on the way.

I didn't realise that the accepted norm now amongst teenagers is that if a guy wants a kiss then he'll simply go up to the girl and grab her by the throat. Where's the moral compass gone ? I blame social media 100%. Zukerberg needs to be in The Hague on a charge of 'Crime against Humanity'. Along with Dorsey.

There is a tiny bit of encouragement in my own situation. Ususally my films get seen a FEW hundred times in the first couple of months and then just sit there, taking years to reach any significant numbers. But I made a film in April and it appears to be doing much, much better than usual:

The grey line near the bottom is Usual Performance and the blue line is for this film. I'll leave you to guess the monetary value of the film so far...

The majority of views come from YouTube suggesting it to viewers, which tells me what I have long suspected - that if YouTube do not present you to the world, you stand very little chance of widening your audience. I usually do put my films on Facebook, both as Steve Maskery and as Workshop Essentials, but the viewing from that is usually in single figures. Which is fine by me as the less I have to do with Facebook, the happier I am.

So we'll see where it gets to. But it's a very long way from where it needs to be. I watch an Italian bloke called Pasquale and he get tens of thousands of views in the first hour. I'm seriously thinking about doing some recipe films. Big Steve's Little Kitchen, Solo Gourmet, that sort of thing. Talking of which, I'm late for dinner.

I wouldn't go as far as 100%, we have consecutive spineless governments let the far left get away with everything just in case they get called an 'ist, or 'ic or something else that stokes division. i read a post earlier, cant remember which that was blaming the old place for covert racism, sexism, homophobia etc. I see these terms are used to divide society rather than bring it together. but then i'm also a fan of free speech and the consequences of such, i.e. call someone something derogatory and get a punch in the face hole, you'll think twice about doing it again.
