• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. Looking for a matte black fabric

I'm cursed (and probably you are too) by the reflection off the top of the dashboard appearing on the windscreen. I thought black felt would work but the felt I've got has a sheen to it.

Any fabric experts ?
 
Magicians use black velvet often when they want a dense black, non-reflective surface for their nefarious hanky-panky goings-on. I suspect it would need to be traditional stuff, not some polyester mix.

I of course as you know have no interest in keeping my car clean ;) but when I clean the dash I use a matte restorer cleaner which definitely cuts down the sheen. Needs to be silicone free andI've use Sonax Extreme and Simonize. Both work for me but I prefer the spray Sonax bottle to the canned Simonize, other brands are available.

Of course it's of less importance here oop norf where the sun rarely shows it's face. :ROFLMAO:
 
Have you solved this problem Rog?
Mrs P complaining that the reflection from the shiny plastic in her new car is causing problems for my light sensitive daughter.
 
I had a quick google last night and there does seem to be some dulling polishes spoken about on the car detailing forums.
I’ve not seen the new car yet. I’ll let you know if/when I find a solution

Hi Andy,
Thanks for your email. Unfortunately we don’t have a specific product to dull material. If this is a new car then I’d suspect that it hasn’t been detailed yet.
I know some dash cleaners contain silicones which can give a gloss effect. Our Natural Look leaves a matte finish but it won’t remove glossiness.
If it is causing a significant issue, it might be worth getting the dashboard flocked.

I certainly won’t be flocking:)

I’m back home now but not had a chance to look at the car. One thought I did have last night was to use an anti-slip mat; I have some in the workshop as a non slip router mat.

Thanks for your message. For your situation, we’d recommend using Nonsense All Purpose Cleaner on the dashboard. It’s safe on interior plastics and, importantly, it won’t leave behind any glossy or shiny finish. It simply cleans the surface and leaves it with its natural, matte look.

If this doesn’t help, then it’s down to the plastic type fitted by the factory. We don’t stock any products that are designed to dull down the plastic

Here’s a follow up reply from Chemical Guys I have ordered there Nonsense APC as a first step no harm can be done process.


Using an APC like Nonsense doesn’t imply the gloss is down to dirt. Brand new cars often come with plastics that are naturally glossy from the factory moulding process, and sometimes manufacturers will also apply a protective coating that can enhance that shine.
Nonsense will safely clean the surface and strip away any light residues or coatings, so if the gloss is from a dressing applied at the factory, it may reduce it.
However, if the high gloss is simply the natural finish of the plastic itself, then unfortunately it won’t change that.
We don’t stock anything that will permanently dull the finish, but at least you’ll know after cleaning whether it’s just a coating or the actual material.

Not yet. KISS to start with the spray. I haven't found a cover for my model yet. I drove it for the first time this afternoon and in full sun the reflection off the top of the dash annoys me too. I've washed a small piece of non-slip router mat too and will experiment with that as well.
 
Driving down our narrow lanes with dark sides to the hedges, low sun coming and going through gaps in the trees makes driving rather fraught TBH

I'd be interested in the results as well Andy as I'm a succer if theres something better around. I'll know well in advance if it doesn't work for Roger 'cos my ears will be burning. :ROFLMAO:
 
The mat effect polish/spray had no effect:(

After the spray. I am not at all sure if the image shows quite how bright the reflection off the dash is.

Dunno what I am going to do next. The router mat I could buy in a large sheet and cut to fit but looks ugly.
Note; this is not a driver issue; I have a daughter with light sensitive epilepsy. Even in the other cars driving in bright sunlight with the shadows cast by trees and building as the car is moving can have a strobe like effect inside the car. With the added brightness of that dash, even when sitting in the back, the problem is exasperated.
I shall investigate the dash covers more thoroughly.
 
Well if there is one in the UK I'm very happy to sort it for you and send it across. The Lons-olution arrived today. I hope it's not the same as the one you tried.
 
I’m also going to try Simoniz matt and also there’s nothing like a good flock.:eek:
