• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Some actual.....you know........woodwork.

Doug, why do you need to stand a piece if glass up like that?

It’s going to act as a heat shied Andy to protect an oak desk from a wood burner, the burner is about 16” off the floor so the heat shouldn’t affect the oak feet, personally I think the chap is being over cautious but I’m not going to turn work away :D

I've been in sunny Scotland for most of the year but I've just got back home to my workshop a couple of weeks ago.
First on the agenda is refurbishing a backgammon board I bought about 30 years ago in Egypt. It has bone and mother of pearl inlay. Well, I say inlay, the inlay was glued onto the box panels and then the gaps were flooded with resin or similar which is nasty when sanded. A lot of the decoration was falling off and more fell off as I scraped and sanded so there was a lot of delicate reconstruction. It was also covered in dull brown paint and a thick coat of very yellow lacquer. Ready to redo the finish once I've filled a couple of gaps and done some more sanding!

You should have come round for a cup of tea Rezi, you would have been most welcome; I never get visitors. Still, next time :eusa-drool:

Just had a knock on the door, the chap from yesterday turned up with a bottle of whisky. Bonus.
That’s a result, he must have felt for you being offered up like that.
It's a double win for me it never happens. I should mark it on the calendar.

I have officially given up before i got too many headaches....will sit watching the rain and contemplate my life choices, possibly followed by a stern talking to.

Right, the rain has stopped, your headache has cleared up, the stern talking to didn't happen.....Contemplate your life choices whilst making something. ;)

And start by making a cup of tea and reflecting on all the 90% of people who have real problems.
There, life’s not so bad! And if it all has gone t...s up, dust yourself off and start again as so many of us have done in the past, most things really aren’t all that important when it comes down to it. Chin up Craig. Ian

Is this thread going to become the "Post a photo of the last thing you made" thread on the other place? The thread for a few quick pictures which people don't want to or doesn't warrant a full project thread?

I hope not. It soon became such a muddle.

I don't see anything wrong with lots of projects, labelled with what they are, even if they are brief. That approach works if you are looking for inspiration or trying to find something you liked so you can copy it.
Project threads can be as long or as short as we care to make them.

Thanks for kind offer, I was in Edinburgh a couple of times as I was living just up the road in Stirling. I was definitely missing my workshop while I was there but I tried to make up for it by buying lots of tools and materials. 8-)

I've not spent that much time browsing the "Post a photo of the last thing you made" thread, but I really like the "Stuff you have made today" thread on mig-welding.co.uk. There are loads and loads of posts of stuff (like this or like this for two of mine as they're easy to find) that doesn't seem worth doing a project page for but might be vaguely interesting to others.

bugger, what did i just walk into? *slowly backs away

I don't know what an air cap is, but the belt sander stand looks grand. The simpler the better I reckon with those things, because if it is any sort of faff to set up, you either won't bother, or you'll leave it set up all the time and it will just be in the way.

Cheers Bob! it got me at least in the garage for a couple of hours :)

An aircap Mike is a needle set for in this case an hvlp system, just thought id organise them a bit better than leaving them in their packets.

I thought id make the stand for the belt sander as i have depleted all my fun-funds for a while so that edge sander i had my eye on has to wait. it works rather well and just drops on a couple of dogs to firmly connect it to the MFT.

Cherry box was felt lined, and the other was suede. TIA

Bath racks are a lot like toasters, you can never find the right size. So I made one from some scraps off an old bed base.

I'm not sure it's what you'd call 'actual woodwork', Mike, but it's wood and I did the work.
(Slightly ashamed to post after seeing Fiveeyes' work, above.)

I'm just about to start composing a long post in my "Renovation" thread, but here's a little teaser in here first:

Not so much woodwork more MDF work but its workshop time. I have a 7 foot high 11 foot wide bookcase to make, adjustable shelving on top unit and fixed shelf with shaker style doors on bottom part. This will be fitted into a room and panels to match on adjacent walls. It is all being painted (i think blue/grey) but I'm only making and fitting the bookcase and panelling someone else will follow up painting.

What's that wood, Alasdair? It looks a little like one of the false mahoganies.

Building something without having to do the finishing..........perfect!! :)

its one of those super soft mahoganies, I chose that over pine as it was available from local merchants and it is knot free so will give a better painted finish than some pine where the knots start to bleed.
