• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I have about ten of these, never use them nowadays, but can’t bring myself to chuck them in the recycling.
Discovered yesterday that they are actually called pipe wrenches and stilson is just a brand name.
Anyone know a use for them or want one? ( or more!).
 
I normally hate anything like this but you did ask!
But I really really like the squishy wood effect on the 2nd one.

I’ve only got them up to 48” long, if you’ve any longer than that Jim I’d be interested

That's a bloody big nut, Doug ! What's it on? The prop shaft of HMS Queen Elizabeth ? :lol:
 
That's a generous gesture, but I'm sorted, thanks, with a 12" (found in some long grass), an 18" (given me by my brother) and a nice old one with a wooden handle (in with a box of other tools).

I can't claim to have used any of them much, but I know if I got rid of them a fresh need would arise immediately! Be careful !:D
 
I use 12" as a minimum to wring off half-century-old pipe unions (caked in Plumber's Mate or white lead) on threaded steam and vacuum pipes for locos and carriages. The leverage achieved - using the old trick of just a tad 'open' on the jaws, and then 'angle' them slightly to one side is just phenomenal. For really stubborn barstewards (think torch applied, no go) a 6' length of meaty pipe over the stilson's shaft has the offending item off in..well....not a jiffy, but off!
