• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

With the most profound sadness, I am sorry to tell you all that, sadly, Bob passed away unexpectedly in the early hours of Christmas Day. I have known Bob for many, many years and he was one of the most genuine and helpful blokes that I've ever had the privilege to know.

Bob was a top bloke.

When I know any more details that I can share I will let you know.

That is a grand shame. As you say, Bob was a top bloke and would help anyone out if he could and expected nothing in return for his effort which could be exhaustive, he helped me several times with my own motor issues over the years and gave me a lot of knowledge which would have been difficult to glean otherwise.

Terrible news, dreadful for his family.
He gave me some motor advice just recently, and very useful it was, too.
Heartfelt condolences to his family
Duncan

That is very sad news, Bob was always there to answer questions and help out if he could which he often could and did. I like many others will miss him.

The workshop community has lost one of its most helpful treasures, his input to the forums and willingness to offer help to those with a machinery drive problem will be sorely missed.

Shocked and deeply saddened. As many of you know, but for those who don't, when the original WH went under it was Bob, Andy and Roger who came to me with the idea to try and resurrect it, and while I did the techy side of things, Bob and the other lads were instrumental in finding resources for me, driving me on to bring it back to life, and thoroughly testing it until, between us, we just about got it right.

Bob was always keen and willing to help anyone with all kinds of advice, and only recently machined me some parts for a metal bracket I needed, wanting nothing in return.

Obviously this is a huge loss to his wife and family, but also to this community. Bob was one of the good guys, he'll be missed.

Wow, I am shocked. Saddened and upset. We corresponded from time to time, he fixed a couple of motors for me and shared his extensive knowledge, and we swapped a few bottles of wine. I was about to ask his view on another matter and am astonished he has gone from our lives. He will be missed.

Bob was a personal friend. Someone I met via the forums. He and his wife visited us here often and they have entertained not just me but my whole family at their home. On my frequent visits I kept him stocked with his favourite french coffee and madeleines.
I am deeply shocked and saddened and will be contacting the family. I had planned to visit in a few weeks when I take my daughter back to uni.

So sad. I had numerous conversations and pms with him on the forums over the years. Please pass my condolences on to his family Roger. A genuine man who will be sorely missed.

What more can I do but echo the sentiment already expressed.
I never had the pleasure of meeting him personally but have benefited from his words of wisdom.
Condolences to his family and closest friends
Andy

What! No........

He was here just 2 or 3 months ago, fit and well. What a terrible shame.

Oh man what terrible news! Hard to find words that haven't already been said - I agree with them all. He was truly one of the good guys.

I've taken a pause from posting recently but I have been reading regularly. Need to get my woodworking motivation back. News like this doesn't help. RIP Bob

Such sad news, Bob really helped me out a few times, generous and patient with his knowledge.
Deepest condolences to his family.

Thanks for the knowledge Bob, I hope his family knows how helpful he was for folks like myself, he was very generous with his wisdom and time.
My condolences to the family of the great man.

That's very sad to hear. I think Bob helped me fix a capacitor issue with my (metalwork) lathe motor. I could tell from the many posts he made on electric motor threads that he was very knowledgeable and helpful. Condolences to his loved ones.

A shock and so sad losing a friend.

Got to know Bob quite well over a couple of years e-mails, last one being the Xmas wishes on 22 December.

He was so positive about his health results, looking forward to the Xmas and New Year family gatherings.

Condolences to Janice and family.

(AndyP if you could please convey)

Some years back, The Other Place had an excellent organised day out at Axminster Tools, We toured in very small groups, and mine comprised just me and Bob, and was guided by Mrs. Styles (no less!).

I can't add much to what's been said already, except that his questions and comments were insightful, and that it remains a very happy memory.

Bob, you'll be much missed.

Can't be sure Eric, but I think I may have had a hand in organising that event. As I recollect Ax laid on a rather yummy spread in the photographic studio. Katina S wore a pink hi-viz waistcoat! - Rob
