• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Maybe one for the cruciverbalists

It definitely helps when you get a good first word, my luck will run out soon

Tough one today, got it in six but again was a toss up of two options for five and again I picked wrong.

One? Now that's seriously impressive...

Lucky guess for the first word.

Full disclosure, wife had already done it earlier in the day and all I can think is that subconsciously I might have seen or heard what she'd done and used that as my starting word. I don't remember seeing it and we didn't discuss, but maybe she was talking to our daughter and I caught it, don't know. Seems highly unlikely I just got lucky...

For those of us who can't always guess it in one... I recommend turning on "hard mode" in the settings. This means that it won't accept a guess which you should have realised could not be right, from the information already revealed.

I still needed 4 goes today.

Surely that's 'easy' mode as it's giving you a hint... :eusa-think:

That's better especially as my first guess drew a blank.

Same Andy. I’ve come up with a good way to eliminate all vowels and 10 of the most used letters in the first two guesses. Still took a bit of thinking about to get to the answer but it was the only one I could think of that fitted.

Should not have tried it B.C. (Before Coffee) Scraped through on the final try. "Phew" indeed.

Undoubtedly. Then buy a lottery ticket PDQ.

I am struggling to understand how in two guess you can eliminate 5 vowels and 10 most used letters. Don’t tell me, we are having too much fun working out our own strategies here

Presumably 5 of those 10 most used letters are vowels.

Yeah you just need to find two words that have the vowels spread across them, and the rest being unique letters.

I’ll give you a small hint to my technique, there’s one vowel I don’t actually include, but deductive reasoning helps then. Not always, but often.

The most commonly used letters of the English language are e, t, a, i, o, n, s, h, and r. I think Mark must also include 'u'.

So inate then hours would cover them.

If you'd had your drink first you might have got it first go :eusa-think: :D

They're not mine, but I don't think it really matters too much so long as you cover off the at least four vowels and the rest being all different consonants. That then gives you a good base to identify what's in it, if you're lucky where but if not then at least knowing what's in can help you identify what needs to be.

A bit slow today - 5 guesses. But a lesson has been learned ;)

still a stupid game that I'm not playing.

4. because I had a 50%-50 chance on number three assuming ammerica and took the wrong 50.

Roger's comment, which was rather more on the nose, might have guided me too. However I take the precaution of not reading this thread until after I've done the puzzle. A habit worth adopting, maybe?

Yep normally I don’t I just looked at the forum first thing while waiting for the the kids to get ready for school. Won’t be doing that again.
