• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Toasted sourdough bread smothered in salted butter, Welsh Cheddar and sliced onions.
But even better is a Stilton or Danish blue cheese and sliced French shallots.

Tasty. Have you tried Cornish cheddar? Lastly are he onions raw?

Cool. When you say "French" shallots are we talking Griselle, or the milder pink Jersey variety?

I get through an 8kg bag of banana shallots every week. When we get into new season I will be buying a lot of Roscoff again as well.

For those in the UK, I think the sourdough bread from M&S is very tasty - a good, dense loaf that benefits from being very thinly sliced & toasted.

+1

Wish my bandsaw was working. I struggle to cut the loaves myself and you can’t always get them pre-cut from the store.

IMO M&S food is head and shoulders above Waitrose. Their Indian meals are superb but watch out for the Pork Vindaloo. Volcano 🥵

Very hard to get Echalion shallots from supermarkets. At least from our branches.

Surprised Stilton is a thing out there Duke.
We bought a big wedge of Colston Bassett yesterday for our guests, neither of us likes it.
As a young lad (13+) I worked in a village dairy making the stuff.

Back to the OP.

Marmite and Q..
I’m even beginning to win over the locals, most of whom are sceptical until they’ve tried it.

I was baffled for a moment trying to work out marmite and barbecue sauce.

Mine is also a bit of an odd one:

Tuna, Mango Chutney & Coleslaw.

Many years ago I was in a sandwich shop (one of the sort that has loads of fillings on the counter & you can choose whatever you want). I was feeling indecisive about what to order so after the previous customer had been served I just said "I'll have whatever he had". It was only after I'd tasted it that I worked out what it was but it has been a staple ever since.

Coronation chicken. Mmmmmm......
Yuk! Each to their own, Gill :)

Talking of sandwiches, years back the sales team on a visit to America frequented the same sandwich bar. They had a competition. Who would be first to so precisely define the exact specification of a sandwich that the counter guy wasn't able to say 'Would you like ....'

It took us three days ! :ROFLMAO:

Many a true word...
Missus had a leg of lamb in the freezer but needed to give half of it to daughter in a hurry with no time to defrost.
Well out of sight I put in pilot holes and fixed it to a 2x4 with some 6x150s and cut it up with my demolition saw.
Mrs was oblivious but pleased and cat appreciated the sawdust

plain omelette, strong cheese, dry ham and a smattering of mint sauce between medium white bread or crisp sandwich :)

Just looked at the package, the shallots are a product of Canada, usually they come from you know where.
Not mild tasting !

Hard to find here but luckily they sell it in town.

No.1 son's FiL is a Brit living in Victoria BC who's favourite part of a festive meal is a slab of Stilton, a few crackers and a 'thimbleful';) of decent port. That said, he mentioned that Stilton (and similar) can be purchased in Canada but it's advisable to take out a second mortgage before doing so - Rob

Went over to Melton Mowbray (20 minutes away) to visit our favourite butcher.
Some of the spoils

Not sure, these are a product of Canada. 1000015847.jpg

If you want a real blue cheese that will put hairs on your chest than it has to be Roquefort. Wouldn’t dream of putting it in a sandwich though.

Red Dwarf-inspired triple fried egg, cheese, chilli and chutney sandwich (y)

“Like a combination of food and bowel surgery”. It’s actually very good.
