• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Post a photo of the last thing you made...

Cd rack looks good Pete & by the looks of things much needed :eusa-clap:

What was the sequence there Doug?
Add the colour, blacken the groove (burnt?), sand back the rim?

Bowl was completed & sanded including the burnt groove Andy before I put the coloured oil on though I did that whilst it was still held in the Cole jaws, I oiled the rest off the lathe.

talking of nuts...I just shaped this for my p-bass, it still needs polishing through the grits but it looks much better

you might hate me for this, I hate myself a little bit.
but my PBass (Squier, I'm cheap) currently has a PETG 3D printed nut on it. :o

no way I'd gig with it, but it's held up ok for the past few months with some playing.

It's a 96 and you'd struggle to tell the difference to the "real" thing. It's right about the right time for squiers when they really awarded to get close. Last time I played in public was far to long ago to mention.

I've got an 80s Japanese Squier Strat. Nice.

How is the fabric attached?

The fabric is sewn in a loop, and a dowel keeps the loop from pulling through the slot between the upper and lower rail.

Kirk

Thanks for the close up Kirk. It's great that you don't have a seam running parallel and close to the dowel like you sometimes see. Very nice.

We really need a WH2 band :)

Pete, I like the choice of glass for the shelves. Stiff enough but quite thin, so taking minimum space. Did you have to get them specially made? I assume they are toughened glass.

Hi Andy

Yes local glaziers, 10 toughened glass about £140 cheaper than wood and as you say they give you more room.

I have space for 150 more on the shelves and some more on the top.

Pete

Good idea to have glass shelves but I’m sure you don’t actually need to go to the expense of toughened glass, ordinary 6? Mil with polished edges was what I used in large glass display cabinets for years, particularly in the situation you are using them with very little weight on them ordinary will be fine. Ian

I'd agree; no need to go to the additional expense of toughened - Rob

Guess you chaps have never been drunk and fallen through a glass shelving unit. Me, I'm all for toughened safety glass. Lol

I'd be up for a band even if was just a jam and we never gig, it's always good meeting other people to play music with.

This mirror frame has been hanging around for too long so today I cut the haunches off & gave it a good sand up.
I’d made some stainless steel key hole plates so let those in, planed up some fillets, masticed the mirror into the frame then cut & pinned the fillets in.

All done

The Mastic should have cured by tomorrow so hopefully I can get some oil on it.

Very nice Doug. Did you consider finishing it before fitting the mirror?

Those flush back plates (I assume they are let in?) are very nifty. I love the very light wood - will it stay that way?

It’s going to be oiled Mike so I didn’t want to take a chance on the mastic not sticking to the wood once oiled

The keyhole plates are let in Adrian, I’ll be using Osmo raw oil so hopefully that will negate the yellowing process, I’ve been pleased with the light coloured hardwoods I’ve used it on so far.

And of course the mirror just happened to be resting there when you took the picture. Drive-by or what? :D

The frame is looks very neat .

Better that Andy than to have taken the photo with the mirror stood up with my unshaven fizog in the reflection :eusa-think: :?

What is it? Magic
What is it used for? See question one
Made out of? See question 2
How? See question 3. 8-)

Sorry, that's just mean isn't it. This might help

knife, cutting, PLA and PETG, magic.

It’s been a good while since I’ve turned any pens so I thought I best give it a another go, here’s 3 English Walnut, Olive wood & Brown Oak all finished with lacquer

Also unusually for most projects I do I got to see a job I’d done decorated, this is the storage cupboard I cut down & fitted on a bulkhead 3 weeks ago

Funny you should say that Adrian the chap I did it for is a decorator so it should be good :eusa-think:

I was asked to make these for a Gentleman in Hawaii, Each box is designed to hold 9 Namiki Emperor fountain pens.
One of the pens is a Namiki Emperor Nightline for those who like to google, but make sure you are sitting down.
The boxes are made from MDF and are wrapped in Italian leather with oak veneer on the edges. The lining is all suede. I molded the pen slots from HDPF over a wooden form.
