• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Maybe one for the cruciverbalists

I definitely should have waited until after my first coffee!

No rhyme or reason to this damn thing, is there? Hadn't had my coffee because it's a tea day - but I hadn't had that either! My previously mentioned rule of thumb was possibly the key.

I've just been transfered to a new machine in work. so I don't have the old distribution anymore.

but thanks Trim for giving me enough to get it in one.

You seem to have a bit of a gift for this, Gill.
I've only played it seven times - I'm bound to come a cropper soon!

I don't know how everyone else approaches this but my first attempt is always 'pious'. 'P' and 'S' are fairly common letters and flushing out vowels must be a good strategy. My choice of second word varies according to whatever my first attempt throws up. If there's an 'S' I'll usually try 'heard' in an attempt to get the remaining vowels plus other common letters. 'S's and 'H's often go together, as do 'H's with either 'T's or 'C's. If there's no 'S' in my first attempt I play something like 'beard' instead. It's unusual for vowels to begin five letter words; more often than not they begin and end with hard-sounding consonants such as 'T' or 'D'. Soft-sounding consonants are usually in the middle of the word with the vowels.

Anyway, that's my approach. I'll be scuppered if tomorrow's word is 'ochre'!

My strategy has been to start with a word with 3 vowels but I try to vary it each day.
I also like to try the odd not a word. Eg today RUTHS which surprisingly was accepted

Yeah, but I didn't know that when I tried it.

I tried a selection of letters a few days ago that turned out to be sort of communion spoon. Wish I could remember what it was.

Won't we all!

My starting word is now set in stone, simply because I would be so annoyed if it cropped up as the answer and I hadn't used it.

Harrumph! If I'd thought about what I call the farmer up the road then I'd have got it in one !

Ack. Went too far off piste for my second guess and then took the wrong one at 4, thus 5.
