• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Post a photo of the last thing you made...

I printed a few storage aids for lathe stuff Chuck/face plate mounts and something to keep the inserts for the O'Donnell jaws to hand instead of them lurking at the bottom of a draw. If anyone would like a chuck mount, let me know and I can print you some.

Something useful from the 3D printer.

So I had a chat with Dave (novocaine) about two colour prints, here is my second attempt Two goes at the same thing, one for me and one for my Daughter, just got to sort out some key rings for them.

Something useful from the 3D printer.

I have a small collection of small clamps. Note the stronger than steel retaining straps on some of them. :eusa-whistle: Unfortunately some of them have lost their rubber pads. I spent some time drawing a replacement in Fusion 360 I had a problem drawing the slots where it slides on to the...

Something useful from the 3D printer.

When I was working, some years ago now there was a company supported scheme to get us all to walk about more and get fitter! I bought a FitBit as the supplied pedometer was some what pants, this synced via my mobile phone. The FitBit worked well but the physical side it left a lot to be desired...

What happens when you don't pay attention

I have been busy with my still quite new 3D printer. This afternoon I started a print and walked away as it should take about 2 hours to complete. I went back a while later and found a mess, the item on the left. My mistake was not checking that I had laid the thing down flat on the bed when I...

    A few turnings

You may remember that sometime ago Mike had some bog oak for sale, I went along but being an awkward sort of chap I came away with a slab of yew. I found a Dutch wood turner on youtube demonstrating turn some platters so I had a go with some of the yew. This was the widest part of the board...

    Pendant for my CNC

While working on setting up the pendant, I found there had been an update for the CNC Duet firmware, which added a few new useful features, one of which was a simple way to control the speed of my spindle directly from the Duet. I just need to add a converter to change the pulse width modulated...

    Pendant for my CNC

I have an Ooznest WorkBee CNC with a Duet controller, which is a stand alone board, mounted on the CNC and its controlled using a web based interface from a laptop in my case. This works well for the machining of parts but is a bit cumbersome when setting the position of the cutter ready to...

    Lathe add-on's

I have a good dust collector but have been struggling too keep the hose in a good place when sanding plates and platters, this simple ply board with a hook on the end fits on to the bed. That will hold the hose, using a very cheap fitting from Tool Station just below toe work and get a high...

    Lathe add-on's

I have added a hinged board on the leg of my lathe to hold the chucks and face plate as having the in a draw was not very satisfactory. I have started to add storage for extra jaws on the inside. I have a board on the other leg that has the bigger jaws stored

Bog oak and brass marking gauges

Thanks for posting theses Mike, but my part was quite small, you provided the drawing of what needed cutting and I just cut them on to your blanks. Here is an example after the cnc had finished. I did knock most of the fuzzes of with a stiff brush but Mike filling the cut makes it stand out.

    Lathe add-on's

I have a very nice Jet lathe and have made a few things to improve the usefulness of it. Here is the lathe and one of the extras I have made. No prizes but what's it for?

    Last minute present

Our daughter was very vague about what she would like for Christmas, one suggestion was moon on a stick So Christmas morning before picking her up I popped out to the workshop. And yes I do like Pink Floyd.[emoji6]

Looking for a little metalworking help, please

Well I have had another go at these. I think I am closer to the originals, I have turned the posts with a smaller section on the end as I think looking at the supplied one, they go into a square hole. I hope the small section will fit in the hole and a tap with a mallet will shown what if any...

Looking for a little metalworking help, please

Well Roger posted the old finnels to me, they arrived very quickly. I had just a small piece of iroko that was given to me some years ago by Nick Webb at one of my bashs. I cut a bit of and sawed it to rough size. So this is what I was aiming for But I managed to get a catch! it can happen...

    I am back

Some of you may of noticed that I had not been around for a bit, I have been well but the LOML has has quite a bad time of it. She has had some problems with her knees, one of which last year was Xrayed at the local health centre, the expert there said she had arthritis and was prescribed a tube...

    Marvelous, cost reduction bites back

I had a jumbo roll clean up roll from Aldi. I finished it up after probably a year of it hanging on a quick holder I put together. Bought a two pack as they them in store a little while ago, guess what? They have reduced the size of the cardboard tube, it no longer fits the holder!
