• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Nick's workshop

I finally got a few hours to spend on this today. And discovered I am making really heavy weather of it. After getting the structure up in a day, I've spent ages dealing with irritating little issues and discovered some more today which meant I made negative progress. As you will have seen in...

    Nick's workshop

Thanks Mike- yours looks fantastic. It is fair to say I don't have the skills or time to do anything that complicated! What I had in mind was something like this which we have on our rear extension: it's a sealed unit but the top piece of glass is a lot larger than the bottom piece, which is...

    Nick's workshop

I managed to get about 3 hours at it today. Insulation went in really easily on one of the long walls - these batts are far more rigid than the ones I used on the last building, and half of them went in without any cutting due to the way I'd spaced the noggins. I managed to put the internal...

    Nick's workshop

Some more photos from this weekend. I got the doors on after squaring the building up again - they need a good clean! I don't know what has happened to the breather membrane on that front wall- it was not like that when the building was taken down in January. I'll have to investigate. I have...

    Nick's workshop

As I mentioned, I put the basic structure up in a day with the help of a labourer. We had a lot to do and quite a few issues arose as we went on. Rightly or wrongly, I dedided that we should focus our time on doing the heavy work - if we came across a problem that we couldn't quickly resolve...

    Nick's workshop

I've rotated the image both ways before uploading above, but it always shows up side down. So here is a screenshot of the photo instead.

    Nick's workshop

I finally got a base sorted. With a bit of luck I will find time this weekend to re-assemble the walls and roof. The builder we are using for work on the house had a few days spare so he did the base for me. The concrete finish is a lot rougher than I'd like, but it is level and the brickwork is...

    Nick's workshop

Hello everyone. As set out in this thread, I built a large shed/small workshop on a temporary site about a year ago; and a few months ago the builder dismantled it and built an extension on that site. I built the workshop in a way that (I hope) made it easy to transport to a new location, and...

    Nick's workshop

... and then in January this year we started the side extension so it got taken apart again! Again - proof: The builder arrived at about 9am to start taking it apart. Somewhat depressingly, he had it dismantled and stored in the back garden in the constituent panels, with the brick plinth in...

    Nick's workshop

Hi all. I did finish this in the end, probably around easter last year. So about a year ago. Here is the proof:

    Nick's workshop

About time I put up some pics. Here is where we are at close of play today- ridge beam temporarily in place, with gable rafters up. Plan for tomorrow is to put in the rest of the rafters and OSB roof sheeting, and cover with breather membrane ready for the rain on the weekend. The sole and wall...

    Nick's workshop

Good evening all. 2 days in, and the brick plinth is up. One skin only - the blocks that sit behind the brickwork are not yet done. Pics to follow tomorrow. As mentioned above, this was my first go at brickwork. It's hard, slow, messy and not much fun, but it's level and done. The base I was...

EDIT: diagram says C32 timber. Should be C24- I'm working on a project called C32 in work and I cannot get it out of my head!

    Nick's workshop

Hi all With the help of this board I built a practice shed in late summer last year, ready for a workshop build early this year. I have now finished that shed - I will put up a final pic soon. Unfortunately due to a back injury I was unable to build the workshop in Jan and Feb but I do want to...

    Nick's practice shed

I am struggling with the door. As you have seen previously, I have added timbers on the front wall around the door opening to act as an edge for the cladding. Which I think looks great. Problems: it is just one timber deep. the hinges are attached to it, and not to the doubled-up studs I put...

    Nick's practice shed

This is the fun part! This took about 1.5 days on my own. It’s good fun! (If you are concerned about how close the cladding goes to the floor, I share your concern but the pictures are a bit misleading: the geotextile is bunched up and the shed is at least 100mm above ground level...

    Nick's practice shed

This was on my list as an “easy” job. It was not! Even with Dad’s help, the membrane took about 3 hours. Firstly: I think I used a membrane for a roof, not a wall. Not sure if it matters: it’s waterproof but breathable. Secondly: Possibly a stupid question, but how are you actually supposed...

    Nick's practice shed

Sadly very few pics of this. Here is what I do have: This was easier than anticipated. 11mm OSB is manageable on my own, for the walls. Insulation took 1-2 hours. Lining the walls about double that – so well under a day’s work in total. I used omnifit slabs, because that is all I could get...
